Monterey Bay Aquarium – Great White Shark Exhibit
Sept. 7th, 2011
By: Jim Burton, PE

As a proud sponsor of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, EcoKai staff was invited visit the newly opened great white shark exhibit in Monterey, California over Labor Day weekend. This young shark, a four-foot, seven-inch male weighing 43 pounds, was collected by aquarium staff on August 18th near Marina del Rey, California – less than a mile from our Playa del Rey office!

Prior to being relocated to the aquarium’s large tank, the shark had been in an ocean holding pen while Aquarium staff confirmed he was feeding consistently and swimming comfortably in the enclosure. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is in its 10th season of white shark field research and remains the only aquarium in the world to ever keep a great white shark for more than 16 days.
