Habitat Restoration Volunteer Days
May 28th, 2011
By: Jim Burton, PE

EcoKai Environmental, Inc staff members, Jim Burton and Carlos Carreon joined many other volunteers for a morning of Habitat Restoration with the Friends of Ballona Wetlands. Volunteers were given the opportunity help restore the last coastal wetland habitat in Los Angeles county and received hands-on experience while learning wetland ecology.

The day focused on clearing an area surrounding a recently removed non-living acacia tree. Volunteers sifted through dirt leaves and trash restoring the area. The Friends of Ballona Wetlands (FBW) sponsor Habitat Restoration Volunteer Days the fourth Saturday of each month from 9:30 am to noon. Meet at the parking lot behind Gordon’s Market at 303 Culver Blvd, Playa del Rey. For more information visit the FBW website or call their office at (310) 306-5994.

Carlos Carreon (EcoKai) removes soil prior to disposing of trash and leaves.

Volunteers restore an area around a re-planted tree.
